Check the expected impact where you are
The Met Office issues impact-based weather warnings. The colour alone does not tell every household what will happen: read the warning details, affected area, timing and expected impacts. Follow current official advice rather than relying on screenshots or unsourced social posts.
Severe weather can disrupt travel, power, communications, schools, care and deliveries. A useful household response starts with the consequence that would matter most to you.
Your action: decide what one warning would change
Check the current Met Office forecast and warning service. Agree one practical decision your household would review if a relevant warning were issued—for example, an essential journey, a care handover or how household members will reconnect if travel is disrupted.
Do not travel into unsafe conditions to test a plan. During an event, follow the Met Office, emergency services, local authority and transport or service providers.
